Multinationales étrangères et effectif des sièges sociaux des entreprises canadiennes de fabrication

Abstract

Dans le présent document, les auteurs examinent l'effectif des sièges sociaux dans le secteur de la fabrication au Canada. Ils se penchent sur les caractéristiques qui sont liées à la création d'un siège social et à la taille de l'effectif de ce dernier. La taille de l'entreprise, le nombre d'usines, la diversité industrielle, l'emplacement géographique, l'industrie et la nationalité sont au nombre des caractéristiques examinées. Les auteurs en arrivent à la conclusion que les entreprises appartenant à des intérêts étrangers sont plus susceptibles d'établir un siège social et de créer un plus grand nombre d'emplois dans leurs sièges sociaux que les entreprises sous contrôle canadien, après correction pour tenir compte des caractéristiques des entreprises. Ils concluent également que l'établissement d'un siège social et les niveaux d'effectif sont associés au niveau de complexité de l'entreprise (p. ex., sa taille) et à la façon dont elle organise sa production sur le plan géographique.
