Abstract

Pour de nombreux biens, comme les produits laitiers et les boissons alcoolisées, la présence d’obstacles (non tarifaires) importants pour le commerce provincial est largement reconnue. Si ces obstacles non tarifaires importent, le commerce intraprovincial devrait ainsi être plus vigoureux que le commerce interprovincial, toutes choses égales par ailleurs. Toutefois, il est difficile de comparer les niveaux d’échanges intraprovinciaux et interprovinciaux entre eux, puisque le commerce intraprovincial penche fortement en faveur des flux sur de courtes distances. Lorsque les flux ne sont pas correctement pris en compte par les modèles gravitationnels des échanges commerciaux, les niveaux des échanges intraprovinciaux (les effets des frontières provinciales) ont tendance à être surestimés.
