Abstract

Any professional organization, to include the Army, must be able to learn from mistakes, successes and must always remain open to critique and improvement. The military decision processes can be substantially improved by an effective lessons learned process. Unfortunately, some military organizations fail to deliver lessons when and where they are needed. In this paper, we highlight the importance of lessons learned system as a tool for military commanders in close relationship with the Army's Decision/Action cycle. The process can be applied at any level of Army command. It depends on a staff supported lessons review that looks at the current operational experiences in order to improve the military organization as a whole.
