Abstract

Various economic sanctions have significantly affected the Russian labor market. The aim of the work is to analyze changes in the Russian labor market in 2022-2023 based on official statistics, data from employment services and surveys of employers. Although the first wave of sanctions was imposed in 2014-2015, more significant restrictions began to be applied to the Russian economy in the second wave of sanctions in 2022-2023, which inevitably led to changes in the labor market. Firstly, as in any crisis, a decline in real wages was expected in 2022, but the unemployment rate not only did not increase, but even continued to decline. Secondly, the sanctions have led to significant structural changes in the country as a whole and in the labor market. Although the degree of structural changes was relatively low in 2022, in 2023, judging by the dynamics of labor turnover, the scale of changes accelerated significantly. Thirdly, there is a shortage of personnel in several industries, largely due to long-term demographic trends, but also structural changes in the demand for labor.
