Abstract

A principios de la década de los noventa en la Argentina se realizó un profundo cambio en el sector eléctrico, pasando a un sistema más descentralizado y con mayor participación privada. Desde ese momento a la actualidad, se ha observado una creciente cantidad de agentes que actúan en el mercado, tanto del lado de la demanda como de la oferta, un mayor nivel de calidad del sistema y menores pérdidas de energía. Además, los precios mayoristas han descendido significativamente como resultado de la competencia en la etapa de producción y por la incorporación de nuevos equipos de generación. Esto ha llevado a considerar internacionalmente a la privatización eléctrica en la Argentina como uno de los casos más exitosos y por lo tanto como un ejemplo de donde tomar lecciones para la reestructuración del sector en otros países.
