Evolução da Desigualdade de Salários entre Regiões Metropolitanas Brasileiras: Custo de Vida e Aspectos de Demanda e Oferta de Trabalho

Abstract

A desigualdade salarial entre as pessoas de diferentes regiões pode ser explicada por três fatores. Do ponto de vista da oferta de trabalho, níveis salariais maiores em uma região podem ocorrer por seus habitantes terem maior instrução e, por conseguinte, melhor inserção no mercado de trabalho. Pelo lado da demanda de trabalho, as desigualdades salariais podem dever-se a diferenças na estrutura produtiva, nas instituições e no acesso à tecnologia. A terceira linha de raciocínio argumenta que as diferenças salariais entre regiões buscam compensar diferenciais de custo de vida e amenidades. Neste trabalho, esses três fatores são considerados na análise da dinâmica da desigualdade salarial entre as regiões metropolitanas brasileiras. Conclui-se que o diferencial de custo de vida, embora relevante, não é capaz, individualmente, de explicar os diferenciais de renda salarial. No que diz respeito às demais fontes, encontra-se que aspectos relacionados à demanda (características regionais) e à oferta de trabalho (capital humano) apresentam papel acentuado na dinâmica das desigualdades regionais.
