Abstract

The deregulation of the representation modes of the works of contemporary art, and the contrasting criteria of their definition, take place at a historical period characterized by a profound transformation of symbolic forms. This deregulation, influenced by neo-liberal financial economics, directly impacts the artistic creation. The economy of the artwork cannot be based on the notions of temporality and obsolescence, in force in the economy of goods and services. A loss of a sense of limits and the transgression of borders notably cause the contemporary art market to race out of control. Apollo is at Wall Street, for the worse.
