Abstract

This document presents 28 cases of good practices in terms of social responsibility implemented by SMEs. Whereas SMES are often active in the field of environment, organization of labour and society, they are in most cases left away from the debates on Corporate social responsibility (CSR). We particularly focus in this document on SMEs’ incentives to develop CSR. The cases presented here show that they often answer to a constraint (individual or social constraint), transformed into an opportunity to develop their activity, to reduce production costs or to change the organization of labour. The enterprises are divided in two categories: pro-active enterprises and reactive enterprises. The former have developed social responsibility from the very beginning of their activity; the latter have developed CSR after several years.
