Polish Abstract: Biorąc pod uwagę wielkość PKB per capita jako uniwersalnego, zagregowanego miernika poiomu rozwoju społecmo-ekonomicznego, województwo podlaskie od lat uchodzi jeden z najsłabiej rozwiniętych regionów Polski. Z najświeższych danych statystycznych że w roku 2006 wartość tego wskaźnika w porównaniu do Średniej krajowej wyniosła jedynie 73,4% [23, s. 805]. Wynik ten w dużym stopniu jest konsekwencją utrwalonej, biekorzystnej struktury gospodarki, charakteryzujzvej się między innymi wysokim udziałem rolnictwa w zatrudnieniu oraz rozwojem branż o relatywnie wysokim wskaźnika pracochłonności [2, s. 14,16]. Nie podważając roli odgrywanej przez dominujące w gospodarce wojewŔiztwa rodmje prowadzonej działalności, takie jak rolnictwo, przetwórstwo rolno-spożywcze czy też przemysł metalowo-drzewny, zwrócić należy uwagę na te dziediny działalności, które wykazują wysoką dynamikę rozwojową, wpływają pozytywnie na potencjał i poziom konhłrencyjności oraz atrakcyjności inwestycyjnej regionu oraz charakełyzuj ą się wysoką innowacyjnością. English Abstract: Considering the size of GDP per capita as a universal, aggregated measure of the level of social and economic development, the Podlaskie Voivodeship has been one of the least developed regions of Poland for years. The most recent statistics show that in 2006 the value of this indicator compared to the national average was only 73.4% [23, p. 805]. This result is to a large extent a consequence of a well-established, structured economy, characterized, among others, by a high share of agriculture in employment and the development of industries with a relatively high labor intensity index [2, pp. 14.16]. Without undermining the role played by the dominant economy in the Voivodeship, such as agriculture, agri-food processing or the metal and wood industry, attention should be paid to those activity areas that demonstrate high development dynamics, positively influence the potential and level of convergence and investment attractiveness of the region and are characterized by high innovativeness.
