In this paper we study the state's role in the modernization and urban transformation in Buenos Aires in the period 1850-1910. This transformation was connected with the economic movements of the second half of the nineteenth century. It was a modernizing movement, a radical alteration of the production-trade system, composition and population distribution and transport system. No "change" only the city of Buenos Aires.
