The Future of SMEs in Egyptian Economy

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt represent the greatest share of the productive units of the Egyptian economy, the current national policy directions address ways and means of developing the capacities of SMEs. This paper reviews the role of The Developmental Role of SMEs in Egyptian Economy. IT attempts at identifying the broad parameters within which an integrated government policy towards SME development can be formulated. The paper identifies the financial and non-financial constraints facing SMEs in Egypt, analyzes the requirements of SME development in Egypt, suggests some broad guidelines and recommendations, and outlines concrete policy recommendations to tackle the financial and non-financial constraints facing SMEs.
