Abstract

What is “local” about places? This is the fundamental research question addressed by Giacomo Becattini. One answer lies in exploring a “middle ground”, between planned and spontaneous orders, in which implicit coordination and collective tacit knowledge explain situated dynamic interactions between people and between people and things.
