Abstract

Based on a study of sixteen specific manufacturing industries for the period 1958-1978, this paper examines the sources of industrial growth during the period and attempts to identify the probable elements that contribute to the growth of the Philippine industry. Based on the analysis, the paper recommends a conscious export expansion and promotion policy together with the appropriate use of natural resources to generate income and productivity increases. Likewise, it supports the emphasis on labor-intensive industries to boost the sector’s contribution to overall industrial growth.
