¿Cómo afecta el desempleo regional a los salarios en el área urbana? Una curva de salarios para Perú (2012-2019)

Abstract

El presente trabajo presenta evidencia sobre la existencia de una curva de salarios en el Perú urbano durante el periodo 2012-2019. Mientras mayor sea el desempleo en una región o departamento, menores serán los salarios, todo lo demás constante. Se utiliza la tasa de desempleo convencional y la tasa de búsqueda de empleo, la cual considera a todas las personas, ocupadas o desocupadas, que buscan activamente un trabajo. El trabajo encuentra: 1) una relación negativa significativa entre los salarios individuales nominales por hora y la tasa de desempleo convencional por departamento, con una elasticidad de -0.156, 2) una relación negativa significativa entre los salarios individuales nominales por hora y la tasa de búsqueda de empleo por departamento, con una elasticidad de -0.115, muy similar a la encontrada en la literatura internacional. También se encuentra (“regresión de cell means”) una relación negativa significativa entre los salarios por hora promedio por departamento y la tasa de búsqueda de empleo por departamento, con una elasticidad de -0.277.
