¿Caminos distintos y destinos iguales?: Análisis de la convergencia en patrones de uso de internet entre diferentes grupos etarios

Abstract

El presente artículo profundiza en el entendimiento de la brecha digital que divide a los grupos etarios más jóvenes de aquellos de mayor edad; en particular, analiza la evolución y la convergencia de los patrones de apropiación de Internet en tres grupos etarios: jóvenes (17 a 26 años), adultos (27 a 49 años), adultos maduros (50 a 59 años) y adultos mayores (50 a 75 años). El análisis realizado en tres ciudades capitales de América Latina (Buenos Aires, Lima y Ciudad de Guatemala) encuentra que existe un patrón de convergencia en las trayectorias de apropiación de los usuarios de los distintos grupos etarios; sin embargo, la brecha entre los grupos más jóvenes y el grupo de adultos mayores no llega a cerrarse completamente incluso después de varios años de experiencia usando la red. De igual modo, se observa que la adopción de actividades más sofisticadas en Internet está condicionada por la pertenencia a cada grupo etario. JEL Classification-JEL: O31, O32, O33, D63
