Abstract

Ireland scored 7.70 out of 10 in the GCPI, placing it in the lower end of the “Strong” index band. It scored 7.46 in Sub-Index A as it has generous maternity leave, paternity leave, and dependent care leave entitlements, and robust workplace safety regulations. Protections during pregnancy and leave, flexible work arrangements, and nursing support are established, but these are more limited. In 2014, Ireland ratified the ILO Domestic Workers Convention. It scored 7.94 in Sub-Index B. Despite domestic workers having equal rights under national labor laws, there remains a policy-practice gap that leaves domestic workers and particularly migrant domestic workers vulnerable to exploitation.
