Abstract

The high rate of childhood obesity in Mexico, especially in Nuevo León, highlights the need for more effective measures. Although policies such as taxes on sugary beverages and front-of-package labeling of foods have been implemented, the results remain concerning. Other Latin American countries face similar challenges and have implemented various interventions but have yet to reverse the trend. A policy brief pilot project called "School Education Gardens" is proposed in Nuevo León, inspired by successful international experiences with school gardens. This project aims to promote healthy eating habits and environmental awareness among children through participation in agriculture and nutrition. Its implementation will require intersectoral collaboration and ongoing monitoring to assess its effectiveness. In summary, this project represents a promising strategy to address childhood obesity in Mexico and Latin America, prioritizing education, and community action.
