Abstract

For some people, the existence of a marketplace has hurt the development of the screen printing batik industry in Pekalongan City, most of the batik entrepreneurs who are no longer young feel competitive with online trading platforms on social media. Several Batik shops in the city of Pekalongan began to close their outlets due to declining sales, increasingly fierce competition forced Batik entrepreneurs to join the online buying and selling platform if they wanted their business to continue. This study aims to explore the consumption patterns of the Pekalongan City community and the significant impact of the existence of a marketplace platform so that it has an impact on decreasing Batik sales in Pekalongan City. Using the method of literature study and site surveys through an interview analysis approach is expected to help to understand the relevant theoretical basis and identify knowledge gaps that can be filled by this research. The results of this study are to identify the factors that influence the decline in the purchasing power of the people of Pekalongan City through the theory of consumption society and the actions taken regarding this problem. The results of this case study can provide more in-depth information about the effect of the marketplace on batik sales specifically.
