Abstract

Film garapan sutradara David O. Russell ini mengangkat kisah Joy Mangano, wanita yang sukses jadi miliuner berkat alat pel buatannya. Cerita film Joy bermula pada 1990, saat Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence) berjuang untuk hidup sekaligus berdamai dengan kehidupan keluarganya yang rumit. Ia tinggal di New York dan bekerja sebagai agen pemesanan maskapai penerbangan. Joy tinggal bersama dua anak dan mantan suaminya, Tony (Edgar Ramirez), yang tak bekerja. Di rumahnya juga ada nenek dan ibunya, Terri (Virginia Madsen), yang menghabiskan waktunya dengan menonton sinetron. Sehari-hari, Joy selalu dipermalukan saudara tirinya, Peggy (Diane Ladd), di depan anak-anaknya karena pernikahannya yang gagal. Kehidupannya pun semakin rumit, saat sang ayah, Rudy (Robert De Niro), pindah ke ruang bawah tanah rumahnya setelah perceraian ketiganya
