Conflict and Cooperation in International Economic Policy and Law

Abstract

This paper explores a number of conceptual issues that are germane to the analysis of conflict and cooperation in international economic policy and law. The focus is on issues involving conflict and cooperation that have been treated in the theory of international trade, in particular departures from the free trade optimum that is the centerpiece of the theory of comparative advantage and the gains from trade. Also considered are situations stemming from departures from full employment and external balance that figure importantly in international macroeconomic theory.
