Aus der Not eine Tugend – Zukunftsperspektiven einer alternden Gesellschaft

Abstract

Einer der großen "Megatrends", der Deutschland in den nächsten Jahrzehnten entscheidend verändern wird, ist der demographische Wandel. Im Jahr 2030 werden aufgrund unserer niedrigen Geburtenrate und wegen des erfreulichen Anstiegs der Lebenserwartung etwa doppelt so viele ältere Menschen wie heute in Deutschland leben. Die Alterung unserer Gesellschaft hat tief greifende Auswirkungen auf unser Wirtschafts- und Sozialsystem, insbesondere, weil der Anteil der Erwerbstätigen in unserer Gesellschaft drastisch sinken wird. Es gibt keine historischen Vorbilder für diesen Alterungsprozess. Der gesellschaftliche Diskurs schwankt daher zwischen Gesundbeterei ("Die Renten sind sicher") und Katastrophenjournalismus ("Das Methusalem-Komplott"). Beides ist falsch und unangebracht. Dieser Vortrag soll zu einer nüchternen Bestandsaufnahme und einer ebenso beherzten wie be sonnenen Politikantwort beitragen.
