Household Structure and the Measurement of Poverty

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between household structure and poverty in seven European countries. The study proposes a method for controlling compositional factors and the measurement of poverty with accompanying empirical analysis demonstrating the importance of controlling for this factor.
