Monitoring, Firm Compliance, and Imposition of Fines: Evidence from the Federal Industrial Inspection Program in Mexico City

Abstract

Using a dataset provided by PROFEPA, we have the objective to analyze the performance of the current Federal Industrial Enforcement Program operated in Mexico City in terms of allocation of inspections, environmental compliance for inspected firms and impositions of fines. The result of this analysis will let Mexican authorities to identify opportunity areas for improving their enforcement strategies to induce environmental compliance
