O Setor de Subsistência na Economia e na Sociedade Brasileira: Gênese Histórica, Reprodução e Configuração Contemporânea

Abstract

Este trabalho resgata a noção sobre economia de subsistência no Brasil ao longo dahistória colonial e acompanha sua evolução e sua reprodução durante mais de dois séculosde história econômica até a atualidade. A dimensão social do setor de subsistênciarural e o seu lugar atual na economia moderna são desafios teóricos e políticos queestão postos à interpretação, para os quais é relevante recuperar o conceito de setor desubsistência. Para o propósito da análise que aqui se desenvolve, o setor de subsistênciacompreende o conjunto de atividades econômicas e relações de trabalho que propiciammeios de subsistência e/ou ocupação à parte expressiva da população. Taisatividades e relações não estão reguladas pelo contrato monetário de trabalho, nem visamprimordialmente à produção de mercadorias ou serviços com fins lucrativos.
