Participatory approaches for planning and construction-related assistance in settlement upgrading and expansion : the roles of tripartite actors and other stakeholders

Abstract

Considers the role of informal settlements in supporting employment, expanding opportunities for income generation, and proper housing. Highlights the potential of trade unions, cooperatives and employer associations, to collaborate with informal sector groups, local governments and community based organizations in the upgrading of slums and the development of new settlements.
