Promoting the culture sector through job creation and small enterprise development in SADC countries : the performing arts and dance

Abstract

Explores how the promotion of cultural entrepreneurship may provide innovative possibilities for boosting incomes and for generating quality employment. Reviews the development and practice of the performing arts within the South African Development Community (SADC), focusing on dramatic performances of dance, poetry reading, story telling and theatre. Examines the functioning of the performing arts value chain and explores the roles of government departments, national arts councils and other stakeholders. Discusses the potential role of the sector in contributing to employment and identifies the needs of the industry.
