Case study of area responses to globalization : foreign direct investment, local suppliers and employment in Győr, Hungary

Abstract

Investigates the effects of foreign direct investment on the local economy of the city of Gyor, Hungary. Identifies factors leading to success in attracting new manufacturing plants and presents a case study of the motor vehicle industry. Assesses the impact of the new plants in terms of job creation, local subcontracting and supplier relationships, technology transfer and worker training.
