Abstract

Working paper on the economic role of the bauxite aluminium industry in Jamaica - examines foreign exchange export earnings, impact of increasing energy prices on production costs, balance of payments, technological changes affecting mining technology, employment creation and labour costs, etc; analyses local level industrial development dependence and regional cooperation to improve multinational bargaining; world's aluminium production and international market constraints. Diagrams and statistical tables.
