Basic needs and employment; self-help basic housing in a Philippine rice- farming village

Abstract

Feasibility study for self help basic housing projects (brick-making "technological package" for low- cost residential construction) in the Philippines. Based on a 1979 sample survey of 100 peasant farmers and landless rural workers in two villages, discusses occupations, living conditions, housing needs, time budget, impact on rural employment and income, etc.; identifies raw material shortages, marketing problems and unsuitable timing as major obstacles; and includes policy recommendations.
