Abstract

Working paper appraising an integrated approach to agricultural development and rural industrialization in 6 developing areas in West Bengal, India. Discusses investment in irrigation facilities, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. Examines the impact on crop yield, nonfarm employment opportunity and income distribution among peasant farmers, on increased demand for industrial products and their supply, and on the efficiency of marketing and local level transaction between rural areas and urban areas.
