Abstract

Working paper on the effects of rural migration on unemployment and the urban area labour market in India - presents a case study of Ludhiana discussing the causes, implications and benefits of migration, migrant worker profile by age group, educational level, marital status, caste, occupational structure and land ownership, man and woman worker labour force participation, labour mobility, housing, etc., and impact on urban population, incomes, employment and underemployment. References and statistical tables.
