Rural women of Thailand: from peasant girls to Bangkok masseuses

Abstract

ILO pub-wep pub. Working paper on internal migration of peasant girls (rural women) to the urban area of Bangkok, Thailand and their eventual employment as masseuses (prostitution) - analyses background, social role and occupation of village girls, and describes how their urban income level and capital remittances significantly affect remaining family economic conditions, and describes migrating circumstances of individual girls. Map and references.
