Los pueblos indígenas y la salud: Cuestiones para la discusión y el debate

Abstract

Recientemente algunas propuestas han puesto de relieve la necesidad de crear una perspectiva común del BID en cuanto a la promoción de la salud de pueblos indígenas. En particular, queda patente que los especialistas de la salud aportan preocupaciones diferentes a las de los especialistas en asuntos indígenas a la hora de evaluar y diseñar programas. El documento de análisis tiene como objetivo hacer explícitas esas perspectivas divergentes de modo que podamos: 1) Utilizar terminología similar y reducir el número de malentendidos; 2) Identificar áreas en las que coincidan las perspectivas; 3) Identificar y hacer explícitas aquellos asuntos en los que hay un desacuerdo de modo que se pueda llevar a cabo un debate y análisis con más información. La siguiente sección de este informe presenta un resumen de las inquietudes de los especialistas médicos, seguido por un resumen de los puntos que preocupan a aquellos que trabajan en asuntos relacionados con los pueblos indígenas. La sección final intenta resaltar las áreas de acuerdo y definir cuestiones para el debate.
