El ALCA y la Ubicación de la IED

Abstract

Durante las últimas décadas, hemos evidenciado un incremento en el número y la profundidad de los acuerdos de integración regionales (AIR) alrededor del mundo. La proliferación de acuerdos comerciales ha sido considerablemente amplia. La antigua Comunidad Económica Europea evolucionó hacia un único mercado (UE) y la mayoría de sus miembros recientemente han adoptado una moneda común. Otros países europeos han conformado áreas de libre comercio con la UE o se encuentran actualmente en espera para obtener la accesión. De igual forma, los países de la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN) acordaron conformar el Área de Libre Comercio de la ASEAN. Las Américas no son la excepción a esta tendencia. Esto por cuanto han surgido una serie de acuerdos de integración regional (i.e. MERCOSUR y TLCAN) o por que otros han sido fortalecidos (Comunidad Andina). Algunos países como México y Chile han estado activos en el establecimiento de tratados bilaterales de comercio tanto con países del continente como con países de otras regiones. De suma importancia es la negociación actual del Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas (ALCA), la cual conformaría un área de libre comercio desde Alaska hasta la Tierra del Fuego para el año 2005.
