Abstract

"With the favorable development of the labour market, employment in Germany has increased by around six million between 2010 and 2022. While the number of vacancies has reached a new high in 2022, the number of job seekers has fallen considerably. As a result, firms find it increasingly difficult to recruit suitable workers. Using data from the IAB Job Vacancy Survey and the Statistics of the Federal Employment Agency, we document the increasing tightness of the labour market and examine the consequences for firms’ recruitment processes and employment."
