Abstract

"The consequences arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic have led to an increase in existing inequalities in many areas of society, in the economy, and the labour market. Analyzing data of an online panel survey, we wanted to know, whether and to what extent such an increase in inequalities can also be observed for the development of gender inequalities during the first year of the pandemic. Doing so, we focus on the development of gender inequalities in working hours and care work, as well as in the use of home office. In summary, inequalities between men and women in the amount of working hours and care work performed remained high during the first year of the pandemic. Nevertheless, we have not found any empirical evidence for a further shift of the responsibility for care work towards women and neither for a concurrent decline in female working time."
