Abstract

"The German Job Vacancy Survey offers representative data about unmet labour demand. It also gives information about firms' recruitment strategies and the way vacancies are filled. From the firms' perspective, personal contacts are the most promising strategy. This is especially the case for small enterprises and vacancies in lower skill levels. In larger firms, one out of three vacancies is filled via job offers on the internet. The same holds for jobs with high skill requirements. Almost 40 per cent of all job entries are transitions from unemployment. The most important channel for firms hiring workers that were hitherto unemployed is to work together with the local employment agencies." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
