Abstract

Lone-parent households have an above-average risk of being poor. Four out of ten receive unemployment benefit II (Germany's basic security benefit for job-seekers). In addition, they depend on those benefits for a longer period of time. The report sheds some light on the reasons behind this extended duration. They include child care responsibilities, the situation of the regional labour market as well as personal characteristics like education, age and nationality. (IAB) ((en))
