Erziehungsurlaub: Hilfe zur Wiedereingliederung oder Karrierehemmnis?

Abstract

Das IAB untersucht den Einfluss des Erziehungsurlaubs auf den Berufsverlauf von Frauen. Hierzu wurde im Jahre 2000 eine telefonische Erhebung bei 3000 west- und ostdeutschen Frauen durchgeführt, deren Kinder nach 1991 geboren waren. Der Beitrag analysiert die Dauer des Erziehungsurlaubs, den Qualifikationserhalt der Mütter während der Unterbrechung und ihren Erwerbsstatus danach. Es zeigt sich, dass ostdeutsche Frauen die Unterbrechung im Durchschnitt früher beenden und danach häufiger erwerbstätig, allerdings auch häufiger arbeitslos gemeldet sind als westdeutsche Frauen. Die wiederbeschäftigten Frauen können ihre berufliche Position überwiegend halten, auch wenn sie den Betrieb wechseln. Die Betriebe ihrerseits bemühen sich zunehmend, den Kontakt zu ihren Mitarbeiterinnen während des Erziehungsurlaubs zu intensivieren und betriebsspezifische Weiterbildungen anzubieten. (IAB)
