Abstract

"Im November 1994 pendelten - hochgerechnet - 550.000 Personen (8 % der erwerbstätigen Wohnbevölkerung) aus den neuen Bundesländern zur Arbeit in den Westen (einschl. Westberlin). Nach einer Phase des raschen Anstiegs bis 1991 auf rund eine halbe Million ist seitdem die Stärke des Pendlerstroms annähernd gleichgeblieben. Dahinter verbergen sich jedoch nach wie vor große Bewegungen: So haben 1994 gut 150.000 Personen das Pendeln aufgegeben, 100.000 neue sind hinzugekommen." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)
