Den stora norrlandsutredningen vid IUI 1939-1948

Abstract

Norrlandsutredningen intar en särställning i lUIs historia. Redan dess omfattning och varaktighet ger den en förstarangsplats bland institutets tidigaste utredningar. Tidvis svarade den för mer än hälften av dettas utredningsbudget och den pågick under nästan ett decennium. Initiativet till utredningen togs redan några veckor efter institutets start våren 1939 och dess sista publikationer kom av trycket så sent som 1948. Vad som föranlett den följande mera ingående belysningen av Norrlandsutredningen är dock främst dess forskningsorganisatoriska särdrag. Den kom länge att bedrivas närmast som en fristående underavdelning inom IUI och helt integrerad i lUIs övriga utredningsverksamhet kom den egentligen aldrig att bli. Men även om dess historia ligger något vid sidan av lUIs, kan lUIs tidigare år inte anses ha blivit fullt tecknade om inte Norrlandsutredningens plats i bilden närmare fixerats.
