Samhällskostnaden för rökningsrelaterad sjuklighet i Sverige

Abstract

Tobaksbruk är den främsta påverkningsbara dödsorsaken i höginkomstländer eftersom rökning ökar risken för ett stort antal sjukdomar. År 2004 publicerade dåvarande Statens folkhälsoinstitut en rapport kring samhällskostnaden under 2001 till följd av rökning. Sedan dess har andelen rökare i Sverige minskat samtidigt som det har bevisats att rökning ökar risken för ytterligare sjukdomar. Cancerfonden och Skandia har gett IHE i uppgift att uppdatera analysen och enligt de nya beräkningarna uppgick samhällskostnaden relaterade till rökning till 31,5 miljarder kronor under år 2015. En hypotetisk framtidsanalys indikerade också att en fortsatt minskning av antalet rökare förväntas leda till betydande samhällsbesparingar på sikt.
