Abstract

Riskuppfattning och relaterade attityder är av stor betydelse i samhället, både inom offentlig sektor och inom näringslivet. Människor har starka uppfattningar i riskfrågor och dessa uppfattningar innebär restriktioner på vilka tekniska framsteg som kan exploateras och vilka som måste kraftigt regleras eller rentav förbjudas, även om experternas riskuppfattning säger att problemen är små eller obefintliga. Inom riskforskningen arbetar samhälls- och beteendevetare med att förstå människors riskattityder. Modeller som föreslagits (kulturteorin och den psykometriska modellen) har endast haft begränsad framgång, det förefaller som om människors sätt att se på och tänka om risker inte fångas av dessa begreppssystem. I artikeln refererar jag kortfattat forskning som gjorts för att öka förståelsen av riskuppfattningar, med tonvikten på forskning vid Centrum för Riskforskning vid Handelshögskolan i Stockholm. De flesta tillämpningarna ligger inom offentlig sektor men den potentiella betydelsen av sådan forskning är stor även inom näringslivet.
