Abstract

Ce titre juxtapose deux thèmes en apparence distincts, la politique muséale et la géopolitique des principautés2 du Golfe, pour en souligner le rapport de causalité. Il donne ainsi à voir deux sujets méconnus : d'abord les enjeux réels de la politique muséale des principautés du Golfe, symbolisée en France par l'implantation du Louvre à Abou Dhabi, et en arrière-plan, la véritable nature du pouvoir en place dans ces principautés et son rapport à la société locale comme au monde extérieur. Cette approche s'appuie sur une longue enquête de terrain, sous forme de nombreux entretiens avec les personnalités qui ont joué ou jouent encore un rôle dans la mise en œuvre de cette politique, mais aussi par la connaissance qu'a l'auteur de la culture et de l'histoire des deux rives du Golfe.
