Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the process by which the market of photograph prints emerged since the sixties by adopting the rules of the art market, and to study the issue of this adoption. First, we describe the rules of the art market based on the value of rarity and originality. Then, we present the way by which the market for photograph prints was created during the forty last years. Finally, we underline the risks to reduce the art of photography only to the prints sold in galleries or auction houses.
