Abstract

Fiscal questions seems to be one of the most sensitive files of the European construction. Current fiscal situation appears rather atypical what raises several questions and uncertainties for the future. The aim of this article is to compare the institutional functioning of the EU towards that of some fiscal federations like the United States, Canada and Switzerland to study the relevance of implementing some degree of fiscal federalism in the EU. We then show that fiscal federalism appears as a very flexible institutional organization to answer to fiscal unresolved problems the EU.
