Abstract

Ce rapport porte sur l'insertion professionnelle des docteurs et sortants de doctorats ayant abandonné en cours de thèse. Les principaux résultats sont issus de l'enquête « Génération 98 » du Cereq sur des jeunes interrogés au printemps 2001.Le rapport se divise en trois parties. La première partie se focalise sur l'évolution des conditions d'insertion à la fin des années 90 et au début des années 2000 à partir de trois enquêtes du Cereq sur l'insertion des jeunes docteurs. Elle s'organise en quatre points. Le premier point donne un aperçu de contexte d'évolution des thèses en France ainsi que des transformations qu'a connues le marché du travail des chercheurs. Les points suivants sont consacrés successivement aux conditions d'insertion des diplômés de thèse, à l'évolution de leurs débouchés professionnels et leurs opinions sur leur situation professionnelle. La seconde partie présente les trajectoires professionnelles des sortants de doctorats en 1998. L'enquête utilisée permet de repérer les principales mobilités de ces docteurs : les mobilités entre différentes situations sur le marché du travail, les mobilités entre secteurs privés et publics, et les mobilités internationales après la thèse. La troisième partie s'inscrit dans une dimension plus comparative des conditions d'insertion entre docteurs, sortants de thèse non diplômés et diplômés de DEA.
