Abstract

Le système monétaire de l'Union économique et monétaire ouest-africaine (UEMOA) est caractérisé par une monnaie unique, le franc CFA d'Afrique de l'Ouest (XOF). Son ancre est un taux de change fixe vis à vis de l'euro. La France apporte une garantie illimitée et inconditionnelle à ce régime de change. Malgré les réformes intervenues en 2019 qui ont supprimé la participation française au sein des institutions de l'Union monétaire, l'obligation de dépôt d'une partie des réserves auprès du Trésor français et qui ont ouvert la porte à une modification du nom de la monnaie, ce système fait l'objet aujourd'hui encore de critiques, économiques parfois, politiques et émotionnelles plus souvent.
