Abstract

We wish to persevere in the study of rail freight in Spain despite the numerous difficulties faced by this mode. Although the obstacles have been widely studied, we propose to precisely analyze recent impediments to identify emerging solutions. By closely examining these challenges, we perceive promising signs suggesting that rail freight could become an adapted solution in the medium term for Spanish shippers. This longitudinal research, based on case studies, is distinguished by an in-depth analysis from interviews with experts in the rail and road sectors in Spain. These varied perspectives provide new and useful insights, leading to recommendations of best practices for shippers.
