Abstract

La transition énergétique en cours des énergies fossiles vers les énergies renouvelables pourrait induire des effets contrastés sur les économies africaines, notamment via un développement accru de l'extraction de métaux critiques à cette transition. Cet article décrit les opportunités et les défis posés par le développement de l'extraction de ces métaux. Si la part de l'Afrique dans les réserves et la production mondiale est en hausse, elle demeure toutefois loin de son potentiel. Divers facteurs, tels que le manque d'investissement dans les transports et les enjeux de gouvernance, sont susceptibles d'accroître les coûts d'exploration et d'exploitation sur le continent, et de freiner le développement du secteur.
